Sally McFarland’s Internship and Residency
Sally McFarland has been a doctor of internal medicine for over two decades now. She has been proud of her successful medical career and proud of the personable and caring nature in which she treats all her patients. For Sally McFarland, having a practice where she cares about people as a whole and not just their ailments is very important. It is that attitude that has made her a terrific doctor who has been recognized within her community.
Sally McFarland graduated from the University of Virginia, School of Medicine in 1984. This was after she had earned her bachelor’s in biology from the same university in 1979. As with all doctors, Sally McFarland had to spend time doing internships and residency. She did both at Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. Montefiore Hospital is an affiliate of the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Sally McFarland’s time doing internship and residency helped her get the base experience she would need for when she became a doctor and started working independently. Her successful residency helped her become the doctor she is today. Sally McFarland is well aware of the hard work and time that is dedicated as a medical student however, when you are able to work successfully and be thanked by your patients for all your help, Sally McFarland knows it makes all the work worth it. While the year or time spent doing residency work may not be always comfortable or fun it is a very important step in becoming a successful doctor. Sally McFarland now has her own internal medicine practice in Fairfax, Virginia and is thankful for all her years of schooling and experience.

Deep Roots with UVA: Sally McFarland
For some people, a school is just a school. But for others, memories of time spent in
college and post-graduate studies are something more. For Sally McFarland who earned both
undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of Virginia, her time at
school was something more than the average student’s experience.
A Virginia native – McFarland is from Fairfax, where she
currently practices – Sally McFarland enrolled at the University of Virginia in
the mid-1970s. She graduated in 1979
with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology, a subject she had always been
passionate about.
Her time as an undergraduate student was marked by the
research opportunities that UVA made available.
Furthermore, the outstanding faculty and staff that UVA had at the time
helped contribute to an unforgettable education.
Shortly after Sally McFarland earned her BA, she returned to
the University of Virginia as a student once more. This time, however, Sally McFarland was
enrolling with even higher ambitions.
Her eyes set on an MD; Sally McFarland pursued her interests in internal
medicine at the University of Virginia School of Medicine.
After years of hard work and late nights, she earned her
degree from the UVA School of Medicine in 1984.
Sally McFarland also completed her internship and residency at
Montefiore Hospital, an affiliate of the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh,
PA.

Sally McFarland: A Professional Through and Through
A doctor is nothing without the respect of her
patients. After all, being a
“professional” isn’t something that comes along with a piece of paper from a
university; it isn’t a title that can be conferred by leading industry
institutions, either.
Being a professional is about having a sense of integrity,
and carrying a certain demeanor that is recognized by others. For those who know Sally McFarland,
“professional” is a word they would never hesitate to associate with her.
For more than 25 years, Sally McFarland has been practicing
internal medicine in Virginia, delivering the very best care to those who need
it most. And, just because she has
received the accolades of a professional from her patients and colleagues, that
doesn’t mean the Universities and industry boards disagree!
When it comes to formal recognition as a “professional,”
Sally McFarland has plenty of that, too!
McFarland attended the University of Virginia as an undergraduate. She received her BA in biology in 1979 from
UVA. Shortly after earning her Bachelor
of Arts, Sally McFarland returned to the university to receive yet another
degree.
Applying herself to her studies, and full of vigor, Sally McFarland earned her diploma from the University of Virginia School of Medicine
a mere five years later in 1984. She
also completed her internship and residency at Montefiore Hospital, which is an
affiliate of the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA.
Since her time as a student came to an end, McFarland’s
professional credentials have only continued to increase. In 1987, Sally McFarland became certified in
Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal medicine (ABIM).

Northern Virginia Magazine, Best Doctors of 2009: Sally McFarland
The more press a doctor gets, the more pressure there is to
excel. While many doctors are familiar
with receiving a handful of accolades, few doctors in Virginia have received
one of the most popular awards in the state: an appearance on Northern Virginia
Magazine’s Best Doctors of 2009 list.
Each year, Northern Virginia Magazine polls readers to find
out what the very best services are in many industries. However, the healthcare industry is one that
receives a particularly strong response.
Being named to the Best Doctors of 2009 list has been a tremendous honor
for Sally McFarland, and the title has helped propel her career onward to great
things.
Along with the naming to Northern Virginia Magazine’s list
comes a lot of responsibility to live up to.
After all, when patients see McFarland’s name mentioned among other
recognized and appreciated medical professionals, she becomes instantly
trusted. Living up to high expectations
that new patients bring with them through the door is a constant challenge, but
one that Sally McFarland is always capable of handling.
There’s proof that she’s handled the challenge exceptionally
well: shortly after being named to the honorable list, Sally McFarland opened
her own solo internal medicine practice.
The practice, which opened its doors on September 1, 2009, is located in
the Fair Oaks Medical Building in Fairfax, Virginia. Easily accessible for many people
(conveniently near INOVA Fair Oaks Hospital), McFarland’s practice has seen a
lot of traffic in its firs year of business.
Additionally, Sally McFarland has been encouraged to expand
her practice by creating her own website, SallyMcFarland.com. For any medical professional, a website can
be a tremendously valuable asset.
Recognizing the need patients have for having a single source where they
can find information from their physician, McFarland was inspired to create the
site.

Sally McFarland: Solo Internal Medicine Practice
While some medical professionals are satisfied to work under
the roof of another doctor’s practice for their entire careers, others just
won’t be satisfied until they have their own solo internal practice. Sally McFarland is a member of that second
group of medical professionals.
Running a practice
that is still under a year old, Sally McFarland loves the new challenges that
she faces on a day-to-day basis. One of
her most recent developments in her business is the creation of a new website,
SallyMcFarland.com.
McFarland has been certified by the American Board of
Internal Medicine (ABIM) as a practitioner of internal medical since 1987. Additionally, she has been a member of the
Medical Society of Northern Virginia since 1994. However, it isn’t nearly as easy to open
one’s own practice!
For the last 25+ years, Sally McFarland has been preparing
herself for the time when she would be in a position to open her own solo
internal medicine practice. For a
doctor, owning your own practice means a lot more freedom. And, for Sally McFarland, more freedom means
having the ability to practice internal medicine better than ever before.
Without having to answer to another doctor, Sally McFarland
can provide her patients with the absolute best treatment, and doesn’t have to consult another doctor, a
process that can sometimes slow and even hinder
proper treatment. Of course, even though
McFarland is the expert and the authority at her solo practice, she has a
wonderful staff that helps her provide the treatment her patients need.
For those in the Fairfax, Virginia area, Sally McFarland
operates a wonderful practice that is also conveniently located. Housed in the Fair Oaks Medical Building in
Fairfax, McFarland’s practice is in close proximity to INOVA Fair Oaks
Hospital. It can also be accessed
conveniently from I-66, Route 28, and Fairfax County Parkway.
